Updated on 19 October 2026 · Selection and methodology detailed below
An SEO consultant helps a company gain rankings on Google, and now get cited in AI answers, by working on three levers: the site's technical setup, its content and the links pointing to it. Thousands of profiles present themselves as SEO consultants in France, on Malt, LinkedIn or their own site. We selected twelve consultants whose work can be verified: a public background, client reviews, listed prices or a recognized contribution to the SEO community.
The ranking is followed by what you need to know before choosing: what an SEO consultant actually does, freelancer or agency, the questions to ask, and how much an engagement costs in 2026.

The 12 best SEO consultants in France
Léo Poitevin
Founder of Astrak · SEO strategy, link building, competitive sectors
Léo Poitevin has done SEO since 2016: a work-study program at Cdiscount, then iGaming affiliate marketing from 2019, as Head of SEO at Blue Window then at GreenTomatoMedia, before Techopedia. He founded Astrak in late 2023. iGaming is one of the most contested SEO markets: you learn fast what really moves a ranking, and what is just belief.
At Astrak, he leads the agency's strategy, scopes each engagement and handles part of the clients himself. Among his published cases: Unistrength, a sports equipment store that went from 2,500 organic clicks per month to 8x the traffic in 19 months, and Epargnoo, 2.5x organic clicks in one year. He is an Ahrefs ambassador and cofounder of the Linkavista link building platform.
Strengths
- Experience in the most competitive sectors (iGaming, finance, SaaS).
- Link building mastered end to end, up to the platform he cofounded.
- Results published with their period and source.
- A team of 13 people behind him for execution.
Points to watch
- Works through the agency: no pure freelance assignments.
- Engagements from €900 per month, a step above a one-off audit.
Paul Vengeons
Freelance SEO and GEO consultant · content, technical and link building
Paul Vengeons has been a freelance SEO consultant since 2020. He started in web writing, then was hired as an SEO specialist at two SEO agencies, before focusing on his own clients. His work covers the three pillars of SEO, technical, content and link building, with a real specialty in content: he wrote the French blog for Systeme.io and led a 100% content project for the Legrand group.
Since November 2023 he has co-hosted the weekly MVP podcast with Antoine Veyrières, rated 4.9 out of 5 from more than 160 ratings. He also cofounded ChatSEO, an AI agent that applies his method to Search Console data. His Malt profile shows 5 out of 5 from 7 reviews and a rate of €1,000 per day; his monthly engagements start at €300 per month.

- Few quantified results published.
Nicolas Sanchez
Senior SEO consultant at Astrak · technical SEO and migrations
Nicolas Sanchez is a senior SEO consultant at Astrak, specialized in technical SEO: crawling, indexing, JavaScript rendering, migrations and structured data. It is the part of SEO that generic audits handle poorly, because it requires reading server logs and code rather than a tool report.
He worked with Trackstone, from the drop caused by a Google update to beating its records: more than 1,000 clicks per day, or 60% more than at the April 2025 low point, after work on JavaScript errors, crawling and internal linking. He has also taken over several e-commerce sites after difficult migrations.
Strengths
- Advanced technical SEO: crawling, JavaScript rendering, structured data.
- Experience with migrations and e-commerce sites.
- Backed by a team for content and link building.
Points to watch
- Works within Astrak, not as a freelancer.
- Technical profile: less focused on public speaking.

Link building is his main specialty: he says he has invested more than €250,000 in links for his clients, with budgets above €10,000 per month in sports betting, finance and crypto. He also hosts the live sessions of the Linkuma platform. His Malt profile shows 5 out of 5 from 18 reviews, and his rate is public: €600 per day.

Marvin Coquemont is a senior SEO consultant at Astrak, where he works at the intersection of SEO, GEO and measurement. He is certified in Google Analytics and Google Ads Search: he can check that a rise in traffic turns into leads or sales, and isolate what comes from AI assistants in the data.
He led the engagement for Slidor, a presentation design agency, on the US market: in three months, the share of AI answers citing Slidor on its purchase queries went from 5.4% to 21%, nearly four times more, and the brand moved from 24th to 9th place among cited brands.
Strengths
- SEO and measurement combined: analytics, conversions, traffic from AI.
- Published, dated and quantified result on an English-speaking market.
- Backed by a team for content and link building.
Points to watch

His published projects are quantified: the merger of Heytens' four country sites, followed by +150% SEO traffic in one year, or YeldaAI, a voice agent publisher that went from 0 to 20 qualified leads per month thanks to SEO. The agency's rate is public: €650 per day.

What an SEO consultant does
SEO rests on three pillars, and a serious SEO consultant handles all of them, even if stronger in one. A technically flawless site without content does not rank; excellent content without links stays on page two for contested queries.
Technical
Crawling and indexing, speed, JavaScript rendering, structured data, migrations. This is what lets Google find and understand your pages. Our guide toSEO log analysis shows how to check it.
Content
Pages that answer your customers' searches: site architecture, category and service pages, articles, and now content that AI can cite.
Netlinking
Links from other sites to yours, which remain one of Google's heaviest signals. You get them through press relations, partnerships or buying sponsored articles on selected sites.
Measurement
Search Console, rank tracking tools and analytics: a good consultant ties their actions to clicks, contact requests or sales, not just rankings.
How to choose your SEO consultant
The title of SEO consultant is not protected: anyone can use it. Four questions are enough to sort them out.
What results have you achieved, and when?
Ask for cases with a period and a source: a Search Console curve, a number of clicks before and after. A percentage with no date or measurement tool proves nothing.
Who does the work?
A freelancer does everything alone or outsources writing and links. Ask who writes, who buys the links and on which sites, and who works in your content management system.
What will you do in the first three months?
The answer should start from an audit of your site and your data, not a standard list of actions. Be wary of plans that look like every other client's.
Do you promise a ranking?
No one controls Google's algorithm. A "guaranteed first place" is a red flag, as is a long-term commitment imposed from the start.
Freelancer or agency? A freelancer works well for an audit, a mid-sized site or a company that already has a writing team and wants an expert view. An agency becomes useful when you need to produce a lot of content, run a steady link campaign and cover several specialties at once. To compare firms, see our ranking of the best SEO agencies, and for visibility in AI, our ranking of the best GEO consultants.
How much does an SEO consultant cost?
On the Malt profiles reviewed on 15 October 2026, experienced SEO consultants most often list €400 to €650 per day: €500 for Florian Escobar, €600 for Guillaume Girod. The most in-demand go above €1,000 per day, like Paul Vengeons, and agencies bill their senior consultants between €650 and €1,020 per day. An SEO audit usually costs €1,000 to €5,000 depending on the size of the site, and an ongoing engagement €800 to €3,000 per month.
At Astrak, engagements start at €900 per month, and our clients invest €2,000 per month on average.

Frequently asked questions about SEO consultants
Who are the best SEO consultants in France?
In our 2026 selection: Léo Poitevin (Astrak), Paul Vengeons, Nicolas Sanchez (Astrak), Guillaume Girod, Marvin Coquemont (Astrak), Lucio Laria (Onze), Daniel Roch (SeoMix), Aymeric Bouillat (Y'a pas de quoi), David Groult (Noiise), Pierre Ribeaucourt (Empirik), Florian Escobar, Nicolas Peter (Oli-via-net). The best choice depends on your site, your markets and your budget.
What does an SEO consultant do?
They audit the site, fix what blocks Google from crawling it, define the pages and content to produce, build a link strategy and measure results in Search Console and analytics.
How much does an SEO consultant cost?
€400 to €650 per day for most experienced freelancers, above €1,000 for the most in-demand, and about €650 to €1,000 per day at an agency. At Astrak, engagements start at €900 per month.
Should you choose a freelance SEO consultant or an agency?
A freelancer suits an audit or a mid-sized site, with a single point of contact. An agency is a better fit when you need to produce a lot of content, run ongoing link building and cover several specialties at once.
How long does it take to see SEO results?
Technical fixes often show their first effects within a few weeks. Gains on competitive queries, which require content and links, usually show between the third and sixth month.
How do you check that an SEO consultant is reliable?
Ask for dated results with their source, references you can call, and a breakdown of who does what. Be wary of any ranking guarantee.
